When working in Excel, sometimes there is a need to delete row. But due to lack of knowledge of shortcuts, even this small work seems too big.

In the beginning of the article you may have seen a shortcut to delete row (CTRL + -) But before using that shortcut it is important to take care of some things. 

  1. Identify the row to delete.
  2. Save the required data from the row in another row.


Today we will learn by example how to delete row with shortcut key.

First of all, the row that needs to be deleted has to be selected.

How to Select the Entire Row in Excel


Here we have an example photo. You can see a list of 05 Indian States in example. Suppose we want to delete 4th row of the sheet, we have to take some steps to select entire row. 

  1. Go to the Row line
  2. A black arrow will appear
  3. Left click with the mouse

You will see that the entire 4th Row will be selected

Shortcut to select entire Row

  1. Click any cell in Row which you want to delete
  2. Press SHIFT + SPACE form the Keyboard
  3. Entire Row will be selected

Press (CTRL) + (-)  to delete row form keyboard

(CTRL) = Control
(-) = Subtraction Symbol
Here we can see that 4th row has been deleted from the sheet.There are 04 states left in the list.

Now the question arises that can we restore the deleted row?
The answer is Yes, we can restore deleted row


To restore deleted row Press CTRL + Z
The deleted row will be restored.

Note: If you want to restore the deleted Row, hurry up. Because if you do any work in that worksheet after deleting the row and you use CTRL + Z it will be deleted.
